Peter Dalton to Present, "Jackson’s Valley Campaign"
The Maine Historical Wargamers' Association is pleased to announce that Peter Dalton will be presenting on the subvject of the 1862 Valley Campaign Saturday morning at Huzzah!
The famous "Valley Campaign" was Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson's famous spring 1862 Civil War campaign through the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Employing rapid and unpredictable movements on interior lines, Jackson's 17,000 men marched over 650 miles in 48 days and won several minor battles engaging three Union armies totaling 52,000 men. As a result, Jackson was able to prevent three times his number of troops from reinforcing the Union offensive against Richmond during the Peninsula Campaign. This presentation and
discussion will cover troop movements, battles, tactics, and the strategic implications of the campaign.
Peter Dalton is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine’s history department. He is a member of the Richardson Civil War Round Table in Sandy Point, Maine and has written and edited six books on Maine in the Civil War era. For the last fifteen years he has been employed as a Systems Engineer by EDS and Hewlett Packard.
